Scope of work

  • Fiberglass insert and surround removed
  • Plumbing rough-in reworked
  • Uncoupling membrane over the floor
  • Waterproof board to the wet walls
  • Walk-in tile shower with hex mosaic floor and niche
  • Frameless glass enclosure

01 · The challenge

A one-piece insert hides everything behind it. Until it is out, there is no way to know what the plumbing, the subfloor or the wall behind the valve actually look like. On a bathroom this age, the answer is usually not the one in the plan.

02 · What we did

Insert out, plumbing reworked to the new layout, and the floor set on an uncoupling membrane so seasonal movement in the subfloor cannot telegraph through and crack the grout. Wet walls went to waterproof board rather than moisture-resistant drywall.

03 · The result

A bathroom rebuilt on a system that is designed to work together, rather than a finish laid over whatever was underneath it.
